谷中銀座の入り口付近には「夕やけだんだん」と呼ばれる階段があります。ここから望む夕日がとてもきれいなことからこの名前が付いたそうで、今では谷中銀座で見られる夕焼けの景色や雰囲気を示す言葉としても使われています。この「夕やけだんだん」という一風変わった名前は一般公募によって命名されました。
